Smoke Detector Installation and Maintenance
We don’t need to tell you the importance of smoke detectors in your home. We do need to encourage you to check your smoke detectors at least two times a year. You should also clean smoke detectors with a vacuum at least once a year. Open the cover and vacuum all the dust and debris that may hinder detection of smoke.
If a smoke detector is 10 years old replace it with a new one immediately. Replace batteries in a smoke detector every six months. Test smoke detectors often with the test button.
Battery operated smoke detectors are good, but if you don’t regularly check the batteries, the alarm may not sound when you need it most!
Clover Electric recommends hard-wired smoke detectors. Hard-wired smoke alarms operate on your household electrical current. They can be interconnected so that every alarm sounds regardless of the fire’s location. This is an advantage in early warning, because it gives occupants extra time to escape if they are in one part of the home and a fire breaks out in another part.
Carbon Monoxide Detector Installation and Maintenance
FACT: Your smoke detector will NOT do the job of a carbon monoxide detector.
A carbon monoxide detector or CO detector is a device that detects the presence of the carbon monoxide (CO) gas in order to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. CO is a colorless and odorless compound produced by incomplete combustion in your furnace, stove, space heater, water heater, blocked chimney or running a car inside a closed garage. CO detectors are designed to measure CO levels over time and sound an alarm before dangerous levels of CO accumulate in an environment, giving people adequate warning to safely ventilate the area or evacuate.
It is often referred to as the “silent killer” because it is virtually undetectable without using detection technology. Elevated levels of CO can be dangerous to humans depending on the amount present and length of exposure. Smaller concentrations can be harmful over longer periods of time while increasing concentrations require diminishing exposure times to be harmful.
Every home NEEDS a carbon monoxide detector. Clover Electric can help. Our technicians are trained in the latest technologies and can properly install a CO detector in your home.
